Pelvic Pain and Integrative Women's Health with Jessica Drummond
Manage episode 212062835 series 2391837
Welcome! Today’s guest is Jessica Drummond, who has helped patients and practitioners in her area of expertise in functional medicine. Our topic today is Pelvic Pain. Join us!
Jessica discusses the following about Pelvic Pain:
- Jessica started out as a physical therapist, specializing in orthopedics and sports medicine.
- She worked with a patient recovering from breast cancer surgery, and began to specialize in women’s issues for the next ten years.
- Her focus has been on pelvic pain, sexual pain, fecal and urinary incontinence, pain during/after pregnancy, and pelvic organ prolapse.
- After the birth of her daughter in 2003, Jessica became sick with vague symptoms.
- Eventually, a few years later, she found a functional medicine doctor who was able to help, but she never realized that food would be part of her problem.
- No one had heard of “balancing hormones with food” at this time.
- Her eventual diagnosis was adrenal fatigue, and she felt relief to have some understanding and answers.
- Jessica dove into her personal nutrition, which evolved into a low sugar, high protein, high fat diet.
- She discovered the “missing link” to pelvic pain issues: HORMONES!
- She started working with women about using food as medicine and other coaching techniques to have more joy in life.
- Every woman is different regarding pelvic pain issues; there are no set protocols to follow!
- For her clients, Jessica focuses on taking away sources of inflammation, analyzing bowel health and digestion, and making nutritional changes.
- Adrenal fatigue can be the culprit for MANY pelvic problems.
- Jessica looks at the root causes and not the quick fix, knowing that each patient must build up physical resilience before other issues can be addressed.
- Jessica discusses the basics of her five training programs.
- Three months is the common length of time for a client’s healing. Their healing may not be complete, but they see signs of improvement in that time, even though it may be 6-12 months to complete the healing process.
- Rachel shares how she helps face the clinical challenges of her clients and helps them transform their pain.
- Communication is key in the client/practitioner relationship.
- Rachel’s favorite question to a client is, “When is the last time you felt REALLY well?”
- Rachel’s coaching sessions last 30 minutes because she wants to start with small changes that don’t overwhelm the client.
- Any practice that focuses on integrative physical therapy and functional medicine has the capacity to do the kind of work that Jessica does to help her clients.
- Jessica shares details about her pelvic pain elimination diet.
