Day 309 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE.
In Ezekiel 7-9, the prophet Ezekiel relays a series of visions and prophecies about the severe judgment coming to Israel because of its extensive corruption and idolatry. God tells Ezekiel that the end is near for His people in their land because of their abominable deeds. Ezekiel sees a vision of punishment with a sign of impending doom marked on Jerusalem. Then he witnesses six men with deadly weapons and a seventh man with a writing kit sent to the city. The man with the writing kit marks the foreheads of those who grieve over the detestable things done in the city, sparing them from the slaughter, while the others are not so lucky. Ezekiel's vision serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of turning away from God's ways. In Hebrews 6:13-7:10, the author speaks about God's promise to Abraham, emphasizing how God swore by Himself to bless Abraham, ensuring the unchangeability of His purpose with an oath. This offers hope and encouragement to the followers, likened to an anchor for the soul. The passage then transitions to Melchizedek, a mysterious priest-king from Genesis, who met Abraham. Unlike other priests, Melchizedek's priesthood is unique and eternal, not based on hereditary ties. Abraham gave him a tenth of everything, which illustrates the greatness of Melchizedek's priesthood, even greater than that of the descendants of Levi, who also receive tithes from the people according to the law. This comparison sets the stage for the discussion on the priesthood of Jesus, which is in the order of Melchizedek—superior and eternal.
