WHAT DOES A NORMAL DAY LOOK LIKE FOR A PERSON WITH INATTENTIVE ADHD?

A normal day for someone with inattentive ADHD can be challenging, but there are strategies to help manage the symptoms and create structure.

Here's what a typical day might look like:

Morning Routine

  • Waking up at the same time each day is important for good sleep hygiene
  • Avoiding distractions like screens and social media in the morning
  • Eating a healthy breakfast and doing some quick exercises to start the day positively

Work or School

  • Keeping a routine and schedule to avoid getting bogged down
  • Taking short breaks every 1-2 hours to pause and collect thoughts
  • Keeping the calendar and email organized to eliminate distractions
  • Flagging and responding to important emails and deleting unimportant ones

Afternoon

  • Reviewing the calendar again in the afternoon for any conflicts
  • Cleaning up the email inbox to remove distractions
  • Taking a walk or doing an activity that calms you, unrelated to work or family

Evening

  • Reflecting on the day - what went well, what were the triggers, what was learned
  • Reviewing the calendar again in the evening to plan for the next day
  • Preparing for the next day by getting clothes ready and packing a lunch
  • Winding down with relaxing activities before bed.

The key is finding a routine that works for you and sticking to it as much as possible. Incorporating strategies like avoiding distractions, staying organized, taking breaks, and reflecting on the day can help manage inattentive ADHD symptoms throughout the day
