During the TransCityRail South event in London, event partners ARUP lead a panel discussion on how we (whether clients, partners or guardians) of our rail infrastructure assets can work more effectively as a team to instil resilience constrained by limited budgets as the effects of climate change become more apparent on the management of our transport systems.

We were joined by:

Mona Sihota, Network Technical Head of Drainage and Off-Track, Network Rail
Sharon Lee, Director of Transport Asset Management, Arup
Councillor Martin Wrigley, Executive Member for Homes, Communities & Cost of Living Crisis
Sian Thomas, Director of Engineering and Asset Management, Southern Region

Sian Thomas explained how we need to be brave and bold to reach 70% carbon reduction by 2035, and she sees it more as an opportunity than a challenge; however, Mona Sihota disagreed and discussed how it is a challenge, not an opportunity, and it’s now that we need to be absolutely bold, and address climate change today before it’s too late… Sharon Lee also discussed how as suppliers we need to work on collaboration across the system to face the effects of climate change together.
