184. Growing in Spiritual Maturity with Mitch London
Manage episode 382661280 series 2828703
Welcome to episode #184! This week, Matt and Braden talk with Mitch London (founder of Just Add Wilderness) about spiritual maturity and discipleship.
What is spiritual maturity?
Spiritual maturity begins with the introduction to who Jesus is and continues into the pursuit of becoming who he has called us to be - like him. Not a lot of people became disciples back in the day. There is a big cost and commitment to become a disciple and follow Jesus. The ultimate goal was to be where and what the teacher is.
The conversion process is a change in lifestyle.
A lot of things start with our thoughts. We need to learn to start the change process with our thoughts. When we travel, there can be a culture shock. There is a similar shock when we move into the kingdom of Light and out of the kingdom of darkness. You will need someone to help you to retrain your thoughts from habits that you are used to; to help you understand that where you came from the habit was acceptable, but we are now working towards this new way of living and the old thoughts need to shift.
We need to stop disqualifying ourselves.
Shame and disgrace come from a place of feeling disqualified. We won’t even begin to work on ourselves because we don’t think we are qualified to be where we could be, where God is calling us. This is a lie. If you look at people from the bible, they all stumbled but they are able to be restored. We have to take up our cross and deny ourselves. We have to empty our hearts before the Lord. His grace is tremendous. God’s grace is what qualifies us when we submit ourselves to God to receive it.
