A mint julep, a distinctive knife, and a real life “potty ranger”.

Father’s Day weekend of 2015, 52-year-old Jose “Pepe” Rey and his wife, Lisette. were out walking their dog in their neighborhood in Kendall, which is a suburb of Miami, Florida.

The couple made plans to have drinks at their neighbor’s house.

Jose walked back home to secure the family dog and make a drink for his wife. On his way back to the neighbor’s house, he was confronted by 66-year-old, Omar Rodriguez. An altercation occurred between the two men and Jose Rey was shot three times.

Omar Rodriguez claimed he had shot Jose in self-defense, but witnesses at the scene told a different story.
