We’re kicking off the first episode in a series on childfree trailblazers with a conversation with Joan Eisenstodt. An Ohio native, Joan moved to Washington, DC in 1978 and worked in the hospitality industry by trade. She was an early member of The National Organization for Non-Parents, which later became the National Alliance For Optional Parenthood, before shutting down during the Reagan administration. Joan has been featured in publications like The Washington Post, New Legacy Radio, and more. In this episode, we talk with her about her experiences seeking sterilization in the 1970s, how she’s feeling about the current political climate, and more.
