On Thursday, the Los Angeles district attorney recommended a resentencing for Erik and Lyle Menendez amid new evidence. The brothers have been behind bars for 34 years, serving a life sentence without parole for brutally killing their parents in 1989.

CBS News legal contributor Caroline Polisi discusses the latest in the Menendez brothers' case after the L.A. district attorney recommended resentencing.

While Vice President Kamala Harris has pledged continued support for Ukraine, former President Donald Trump has previously praised Vladimir Putin's decision to invade. Trump now says if elected, he'd end the war. American weapons have helped hold the Russians back, but some in Ukraine worry the results of the U.S. presidential election could mean cutting off U.S. military supplies and allowing Russia to stay on Ukrainian territory.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken has been in the Middle East trying to revive talks for a cease-fire and hostage release in Gaza. Blinken said Israel's military has achieved its goal of "effectively dismantling" Hamas. "CBS Mornings" talks to Dan Senor who served as White House foreign policy adviser in the George W. Bush administration and Arwa Damon, the founder of the humanitarian nonprofit Inara, about the remaining barriers to a cease-fire in Gaza.

Friday is the first game in the World Series as the New York Yankees are set to battle the Los Angeles Dodgers. The two teams have met 11 times before in the World Series, with the Yankees taking the title eight times.
