Ed Burns has mined his experience growing up in an Irish American family on Long Island over the course of his long career as an independent filmmaker, most notably in his breakthrough film The Brothers McMullen in 1995. He has written thousands of words on the page that end up on the screen. Now the words are staying on the page in his novel “A Kid From Marlboro Road.” It’s hardly autobiographical but clearly influenced by those years long ago as a kid on Long Island. His parents gave him roots and introduced him to the worlds of theater and writing and books. Ed’s career has taken him around the world while never straying far from home.
