Manage episode 466962154 series 2343952
Mike speaks with Dr. Sarah Robertson, lead spokesperson from RMIT University, about the heightened risk renters and lower-income households face in Australia’s extreme temperatures.
Research suggests that private rental properties in Australia are among the poorest quality and least thermally comfortable in the Western world. Many renters are forced to endure homes that are too hot in summer and too cold in winter.
While Victoria and the ACT have introduced minimum energy efficiency standards for rental properties, these regulations offer little to ensure comfort during scorching summer months.
