It’s surprising that Democrats seem so shocked by President Trump’s decision to pardon and commute the sentences of individuals convicted for their involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. He made this commitment repeatedly during the 2024 campaign. In fact, January 6 was a central focus of Joe Biden’s campaign when he was the nominee, and it remained a key issue when Kamala Harris took on the role.
